ABANDONED MOM-DAUGHTER NOW AT VOSD FOREVER

An Irish terrier and her mixed-breed pup were walking gingerly on a busy multi-lane road divider while packs of dogs barked at them from either side, and speeding vehicles whizzed past them. The hapless dogs were attempting to cross the street when the little pup almost got run over; a kind lady pulled the pup from under the vehicle and placed the fur-baby inside her car, the mother dog followed her and all of them went to the lady’s home.

The two dogs started living with the lady’s family, which contained several other rescued animals. She named the daughter Puppet and the mother Muppet. Puppet grew into a beautiful adult dog playing in their garden and Muppet also lived comfortably in the big bungalow. She had a genetic defect which had caused her to have an underbite and was also susceptible to loss of fur; perhaps this was the reason she was abandoned by her original family.

In any event, the two dogs stayed with the lady for more than three years, but things changed when they were forced to move to a smaller flat, which couldn’t accommodate all the rescued dogs. The lady tried to get the mother and daughter adopted but there were no takers for either one of them.

So, we welcomed Muppet and Puppet to VOSD sanctuary. They both had polar opposite reactions to being in their new home. Muppet became friends with everyone the minute she walked into our lives. She loved us all and wanted to spend every moment with her caregivers.

Puppet, the gorgeous mixed-breed daughter, was extremely scared of humans in the beginning. She’d run across compounds and climb over walls to avoid interacting with us; after weeks of engaging in socialising activities she has become comfortable enough to eat treats from the palms of her caretakers. She has also become good friends with Brownie, a paralysed dog.

Puppet’s gregarious mom, on the other hand, is getting more popular by the day. It’s a blessing to have both of them around and we look forward to many years of pampering them. They will never endure the heartbreak of abandonment again; they are finally home for good.

There are few things worse than abandoning a mother dog with her pup near a busy road. We are glad fate intervened and Muppet and Puppet were saved from unthinkable tragedy.
