Hit by a speeding vehicle, old and frail stray dog comes to VOSD Hospice

They say one’s face contains the imprints of all their life experiences. Multiple scars on Karthik’s face tell the story of his struggles as an old stray dog. Injuries on his paws and legs only corroborate the narrative…

Karthik is a 9-year-old canine who was found unconscious after a speeding vehicle hit him at Karthik Nagar Bus stop in Bangalore. He was severely dehydrated, had suffered grievous injuries on his forelimbs, and bones were protruding from his paw pads. The bloody paws rendered him immovable and he just lay there barely breathing. A kind rescuer spotted him and immediately rushed him to a hospital.

After receiving several weeks of treatment Karthik was able to walk again. However, the old hound would never be a young mutt sans scars and pain again. Leaving him on the busy Karthik road would put his life in jeopardy all over again. The doctor who treated Karthik also believed a safer home for him was an imperative going forward.

Consequently, the rescuer approached VOSD helpdesk and Karthik was surrendered to us under the ‘Old dog for VOSD Hospice’ category.

The life at VOSD was just the break the old guy with a limp needed. He was nervous at first but has slowly warmed up to the new environment. Our team dresses Karthik’s wounds everyday with antiseptic ointments and the VOSD Organic 6-in-1 Dog Body Lotion (shop.vosd.in) His wounds are healing well, he has an optimal appetite and also mingles with other dogs. As it turns out, Karthik was an explorer at heart all his life. He didn’t get the chance to cultivate that gift on busy roads but here at VOSD, Karthik became the first ever dog at VOSD to find the quarantine section on his own.

The scar on Karthik’s face is much too permanent to ever fade away; but he is quickly recovering from all other physical and emotional wounds he suffered during the course of his life; under the loving care of the VOSD team. Hundreds of dogs like Karthik, too old and sick to withstand the dangers of street life, have found a safe home and first-rate medical care at VOSD. To help us provide hope to more such dogs, please consider a gift of INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
