A 13-year-old pug who recently suffered waist-down paralysis was surrendered to VOSD due to a critical, unforeseen circumstance. Her owner fell terminally ill and couldn’t care for the dog anymore, so her extended family wrote to us asking for help. We admit pet dogs whose owners fall terminally ill without a surrender fees: https://vosd.in/surrender-ill-pet-parent-dogs/.
This tiny ball of fur had grown up in a home all her life, so we knew we had to provide her the maximum comfort and care. The first step was to check for ticks, fleas or any other injuries, bathe her, clean her ears, trim her nails, and have her squeaky clean! Then, we moved her to our founder Rakesh Shukla’s home inside the VOSD campus. The most delicate babies who need 24×7 care stay under his constant supervision, assisted by a team of round-the-clock staff.
For paralysed dogs such as Cheekou, a living room with an artificial grass mat flooring has been set up – this prevents abrasive wounds when they walk around, and soaks the moisture from the urine keeping the dogs dry and clean. So far, she’s enjoying her new home and we’re happy she’s settled in!
Her health is quite delicate though, for her blood reports indicated high infection. So we have scheduled a vet visit tomorrow and a thorough diagnosis will help us understand how to plan her treatment better. Every dog at VOSD is privy to the best medical care that a pooch can get in this country! Join us in wishing that Cheekou has a speedy recovery, and she spends the rest of her life at VOSD in good health & happiness.
Hundreds of senior and special needs dogs like Cheekou call the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital home. You can gift them joy and love by donating INR 5,000 (~$65) one-time or monthly for their food & medical expenses: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.
If you know of any dog owner who is terminally ill and is not able to care for their pet dog. The pet can be surrendered to VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
