Earlier this year, a man found a tiny puppy on the streets near his home in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. A two-wheeler seemed to have run over her causing one of her hind legs to get crushed. She was rushed to the vet and upon doing an x-ray it was revealed that not only her limb but her spine was also fractured in two places. Her leg couldn’t be fixed so she had to undergo an amputation, after which the puppy was put on medication. Leaving such a small and helpless puppy, who needed extra care, back on the streets meant sentencing her to death so she was surrendered to VOSD under the special needs dogs category.
When Bolt reached us, we noticed that she had severe abrasions on her amputated leg and below her tail. These sores were a result of her dragging herself, possibly on a rough surface after her accident. We gave her a sponge bath, cleaned her wounds and applied topical antibiotics. She was also subject to a vet check-up to ascertain what further medical care she might need.
In the coming weeks we’ll keep a close watch, perform more tests on her, and take the necessary measures to ensure that Bolt not only recovers soon but is able to lead a comfortable and healthy life at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital.
Bolt is just one such special needs dog who resides with us. Every month it costs thousands of rupees to cater to their needs and give them the best possible care. We urge you to help us meet the monthly food and medical bills of our most ‘special’ babies by donating INR 5,000 (~$65) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.
Special needs dog who can no longer survive on the streets can be surrendered to VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
