They may not always hear you when you call their name, maybe they walk slower, maybe they’re missing a few teeth, but none of this stops an older dog from loving you to the fullest. Joy, a senior pet dog was abandoned by the people he called his family when they relocated elsewhere. The poor, heartbroken dog was in terrible shape with pneumonia and a penile tumour. We can’t even fathom the pain this little angel was in.
Luckily, Joy was rescued and brought to a veterinary hospital in Bangalore, where he was treated. This eight year old boy underwent chemotherapy so bravely, but his health was still delicate and he was too old to survive on his own. This is when VOSD stepped in and Joy was admitted to VOSD Hospice for lifelong care without any surrender fee.
Joy is a typical lap dog, he fits perfectly in our caregivers’ arms too! He loves belly rubs and will act extra cute when he wants to be petted! He’s one of the smallest dogs in the farm but has the personality of a Rottweiler! He can give any big dog a run for their money and will chase any intruder away with his “menacing” growl. He doesn’t even have teeth, but will still bare them to intimidate another dog! Joy’s extremely gentle with puppies and loves being that fun grandpa who entertains the tiny tots.
There isn’t a single person in the Sanctuary who doesn’t adore Joy! He hates being indoors, so the vast grounds of VOSD are perfect for him to explore! Joy’s health is constantly monitored due to his age through regular blood tests and vet visits and he’s living a happy, healthy and fun life!
Many senior pet dogs don’t get a second chance like Joy. After being loyal to their family for years, they are left scared and alone at their most feeble and vulnerable. VOSD Hospice provides senior dogs with a comfortable and loving home to spend the rest of their lives in. Support VOSD by donating INR 5,000 (~$66) towards our monthly expenses of food and medicines for these dogs. Visit www.vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/ to help!
Old abandoned dogs who cannot survive on the streets can be surrendered to VOSD Hospice. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
