GOODBYE GUDIYA. OUR GRIEF IS NOT A WEAKNESS, BUT THE PRICE OF LOVE!

What you will learn

Gudiya was a brindle dog with brown eyes deeper than the sea and as warm as a blazing fire. She lived till the ripe old age of 17 years and all through her life she exhibited an undying love for the world around her. Even on November 30th, the day she crossed the rainbow bridge, Gudiya went for her usual walking session after which she collapsed after suffering a sudden heart attack.

When she was on the streets, Gudiya lived happily and unobtrusively for 16 years with her pack members. Last year in April, a speeding rickshaw recklessly hit her causing her hip to dislocate. Our team took her to a vet who informed us that Gudiya suffered from osteoarthritis due to which her bones had become extremely weak and brittle. Her spinal nerves had also gotten compressed because of the accident, and she would need months of sustained care and physiotherapy to recover. In any event, she would never be able to walk properly again; and, the streets would always pose the greatest threat to Gudiya’s safety, given her compromised mobility.

So we accepted Gudiya as one of our babies at VOSD.

Gudiya was loved and well taken care. She was in bad shape when she first came; she accepted food only five days after her accident, but in about a month and a half she miraculously started walking again.

Eventually, she made friends with Khushi; the two of them loved each other’s company and would walk together every day. Gudiya’s friendship with Kanchi was just as special and they also made some very happy memories together.

Gudiya was loved from far away by many wonderful people who donated for her ongoing care and sent her their love and healing vibes every day!

Gudiya’s legendary photograph with a notebook and a pen became very popular on our social media pages during the exam season earlier this year. Even at age 17, Gudiya was ready to go out and explore this wonderful world; that was her way of paying homage to the gift of life. Gudiya’s zest for living and her quiet confidence will always inspire us and spur us to experience existence to the fullest. And we will miss the lovely Gudiya immensely and the exquisite beauty of her big brown eyes.
