Police dog hero Bingo was brutally shot while on duty. His killer now faces 14 years in prison.

Bingo, a Toronto Police Service dog, was fatally shot while tracking Kenneth Grant, who had killed his daughterโ€™s boyfriend the day before. When Bingo located Grant hiding in a wooded area, the suspect shot the dog in the face. The act was called โ€œcowardly and callousโ€ by Justice Maureen Forestell, who emphasized that attacking a service animal is an attack on the rule of law. Grant pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including killing a service animal and manslaughter. On Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Toronto Police hailed Bingo as a hero, highlighting the dangers K9 officers face while protecting the public. Bingoโ€™s bravery is remembered as a symbol of loyalty and courage in the force.
