In Otsu, Japan, an 8-year-old Labrador retriever named Heart of Eurostars JP-go has been honored by the Shiga Prefectural Police for her role in locating a missing elderly woman. On July 28, police received a report of the disappearance. Guided by the woman’s pillow cover, Heart tracked her scent late into the night, leading officers to the woman on a city road just after midnight. The Otsu Kita Police Station presented letters of gratitude to Heart, her owner Tomoko Tobita and trainer Tessei Sugimoto. Police chief Keisuke Yasuda praised the dog’s swift work and offered her a bone-shaped snack as thanks. Trainer Sugimoto added that Heart’s ability to switch from calm companion to focused tracker is remarkable.
