VOSD ON THE SC RULING ON REMOVAL OF STRAY DOGS IN NCR

This ruling has created a lot of concern and chaos in NCR and throughout India.

It is important to clarify that the stray dogs of NCR are in 2 cases:

Supreme Court suo-moto cognizance for rabies in NCR: Yesterday (11 Aug 2025), when the Supreme Court gave the ruling in the suo-moto case, VOSD was present in the court. While the directive is in the public domain, our legal team is evaluating all avenues to review and bring further facts and clarity to the SC. The SC has allowed us to work with the amicus curiae in providing insights on the matter at hand to the Supreme Court.

Delhi High Court hearing on MCD and Govt on Delhi: The Delhi High Court continues to hear the case of the petitioners challenging the MCD and the legality of opening shelters in NCR, and moving dogs to these shelters. The case is still being heard. Yesterday, VOSD Founder, Rakesh Shukla, excused himself from several electronic media interviews precisely because his/our position and views are irrelevant – it is the facts seized by the courts that will matter.

VOSD will continue to fight for India’s stray dogs and be their voice.
