With new rules for strays emerging across India, Chandigarh has now introduced its own set of regulations. What are your thoughts on this move?

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has announced a new rule imposing a fine of ₹10,000 on individuals feeding stray dogs in public spaces. According to officials, the decision follows growing complaints from residents about safety, hygiene and disputes in neighbourhoods. The civic body has clarified that it is not against feeding strays but wants it to happen in a regulated way, ideally at designated spots, to avoid conflicts. Chandigarh is estimated to have over 30,000 stray dogs and authorities believe the step will help balance animal care with public safety. Animal lovers, however, are keenly watching how this rule will be implemented on the ground.
