Jackie and Boondi
During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Jackie, a pet dog, was abandoned after she became pregnant. Her owner left the area during the lockdown and threw her out onto the streets. Like any pet dog, she had no skills to survive on her own, that too at a time when she was pregnant — stray dogs themselves are finding it tough to survive during the pandemic.
She gave birth to six puppies on the street and, naturally, became very weak. Her puppies began dying because of the circumstances, and no rescuer from Bangalore helped them. When one rescuer alerted us of this situation, they were hounded on social media sites for an ‘unethical rescue’ because apparently ‘a mother dog and her puppies were being displaced from the streets,’ which is their natural home. They preferred these babies dying as opposed to being saved by VOSD.
Because some humans lost perspective of what is more important, four puppies died.
We stepped in and were able to rescue Jackie and two of her kids: Sooji and Boondi. We usually do not take in stray dogs with a litter — it is mentioned in detail in our FAQs. However, we make exceptions under circumstances like these, and we waive the surrender fees as well.
Life at VOSD
Mama and babies began feeling at home in VOSD within just a couple of days! Jackie was nervous initially, but now loves exploring the grounds with our caregivers. She is also a diligently clean mother — she only does ‘her business’ outside, which is a great set of manners to be demonstrating to her impressionable puppies!
The puppies were a bundle of energy when they came in. Sooji liked to bully her sister Boondi on an hourly basis. Once, we even caught the rowdy pup ‘walking’ her mother by dragging around the leash that was around her neck. Our team had quite a hilarious time watching the crazy kids up to their antics. Boondi has evolved into a gentle and sweet young girl, but unfortunately, we lost Sooji a few months ago to a sudden illness.
A kind gesture from your side will secure the future of this family. Every contribution counts to provide the nutrition, medical attention, exercise, grooming, and care that the dogs require. Remember, every coin has two sides. So while some humans caused Jackie to be thrown out on the street and caused her puppies to die needlessly, you can be the one helping Boondi and her live and thrive.
