‘Snoutless’ Husna
They say one incident or a day can change someone’s life forever, and it was completely by coincidence that Husna made her way into VOSD founder Rakesh Shukla’s life. In April 2013, a little black Indian stray puppy was hit by a bike — of course, he didn’t stop or bother to care.
She was spotted by a kind lady who posted pictures on the VOSD Facebook page, asking if we could keep her at our shelter. Rakesh replied, stating that we do not have a ‘shelter’ and suggested that she take responsibility for the pup’s treatment. But he failed to notice at the time what exactly had happened to the poor kid.
Puppy Meets Her Papa
After the lady got her the medical treatment she needed, Rakesh noticed that the puppy was entirely missing her upper jaw! He instantly knew no one would adopt her or that she couldn’t survive on the streets, so the little black girl was on her way to his home. That morning, he was listening to a beautiful song called Husna, and that’s how the snoutless puppy got her name. She has been with him for the past seven years, and the father-daughter bond is unbreakable.
Life at VOSD
A high-energy and ever-cheerful dog, Husna has never let a human’s cruelty get in the way of her happiness. She put her pain and injuries behind her to live a full and joyous life. She absolutely loves playing with the other doggos at the VOSD sanctuary, and her super power is spring-like feet that make her jump around like a goat! Another strange thing about her is that she doesn’t particularly like sleeping at night — she stays up until morning and is out like a light after that. But her father thinks she is the most beautiful girl in the world, and we agree.
Her journey from a two-month-old puppy, whose snout was ripped away by a careless biker, to a beautiful and happy girl has been an inspiration for all of us at the sanctuary. We have five other dogs without snouts at VOSD — Haider, Tipu, Thuddi (whose lower jaw is missing), and Michael. Found in different parts of the country, most of them were victims of accidents and were left on the streets to die. But despite facing such wrath and misery, they remain undeterred to date! We certainly have a lot to learn from these beautiful animals.
Our dearest Husna passed away on 4th October 2023. She will always be remembered for the love and beauty she brought into our lives at the VOSD Sanctuary.
