Animals also suffer from common problems that people do, such as stomach flu that causes vomiting and loss of appetite. While their systems can recuperate if the issue is minor — for instance, some dogs eat grass and vomit if they feel unwell — it requires medical attention if the uneasiness persists.
Probable reasons for loss of appetite
- The dog overate
- Is not hungry
- Has mild indigestion, or
- It has a fever
The only way you will know is if you notice the food pattern of the dog every day — it is a good way to keep a check on your pet’s health. Also watch their pattern of water intake, urine and motion excretion.
Persistent vomiting is unsafe
An animal vomiting is not a good sign, unless it routinely ingested grass and throws up. Many dogs do this as a matter of routine, some do it once in a while. But if a dog is vomiting or attempting to vomit repeatedly, it can be a cause of concern. Please immediately check with a vet.
Treating vomiting/ lack of appetite
After the cause of vomiting is addressed, it is usually treated with antacids in case of indigestion or antibiotics in case of infection. If the vomiting does not stop, your vet will give the dog an injection of Perinorm (1ml/20kg) and/or Emset (1ml/20kg).
