The heroes we didn’t see coming.

Heavy rains and flooding in Kolkata left many street dogs struggling to survive in waterlogged areas. Local people came forward to help, carrying the dogs through floodwater and giving them food and shelter in their homes. Videos of these rescues quickly spread on social media, with many praising the kindness shown. A group of rescuers even called themselves the “Doggesh Gang,” showing how neighbours united for the animals. Radio jockey Shekhar Paul also joined the effort, sharing videos and asking others to support strays during the rains. Animal lovers say this act of humanity is an example for all cities. The rescues prove that even in difficult times, kindness and care can make a big difference.
