In an extremely welcome move, the Bombay High Court has pronounced threatening stray dogs with sticks, in an attempt to scare them, an act of cruelty.

Such methods being used by security guards or anyone else would only cause the animals to engage in reactive behaviour, in addition to constituting cruelty to animals, according to the bench of Justices Girish Kulkarni and R N Laddha.

The order came while disposing petitions filed by feeder Paromita Puthran and RNA Royale Park Cooperative Housing Society. Puthran, a resident of the society had petitioned HC to summon the housing society officials to fix feeding spots for strays on premises. One of Puthran’s complaints was with regards to “Bouncers” threatening strays in her society with sticks.
