Real Rescue Scenarios You Will Learn to Handle
Dog rescuers rarely encounter textbook situations. Most emergencies involve trauma, confusion, fear, and limited resources. The VOSD Advance PetCare™ Essential Veterinary Skills Workshop prepares participants to respond to the most common real-world rescue emergencies encountered across India.
These scenarios are derived from the clinical case experience of VOSD Advance PetCare™, including cases treated at the VOSD Referral Hospital, VOSD IPD inpatient care facility, and remote consultations through VOSD CloudVet™. Participants will learn how to safely manage situations such as:
Dog Hit by a Vehicle (Road Traffic Accident)
Road traffic accidents are one of the most common causes of severe injury in street dogs.
Participants learn how to:
- approach an injured dog safely
- assess consciousness and breathing
- identify internal injury warning signs
- control bleeding
- stabilise the dog for transport to a veterinary hospital
Severe Bleeding or Open Wounds
Many rescue situations involve dogs with:
- bite wounds
- deep cuts
- infected wounds
- exposed tissue
Participants learn how to:
- stop active bleeding
- clean wounds safely
- apply temporary dressings
- prevent infection during transport
Heatstroke and Extreme Dehydration
During summer months, rescuers frequently encounter dogs suffering from heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Participants learn how to:
- recognise early warning signs
- provide emergency cooling safely
- stabilise dogs experiencing heat shock

Poisoning or Toxin Exposure
Dogs may ingest:
- rodent poison
- pesticides

- prepare the dog for emergency veterinary care
Dogs in Shock
Shock is a life-threatening condition that often accompanies trauma or infection.
Participants learn how to:
- recognise early and advanced shock symptoms

- maintain body temperature
- stabilise the dog before transport
Fractures and Limb Injuries
Improper handling of fractures can worsen injuries.
Participants learn how to:
- recognise fractures and dislocations

- prevent further injury during transport
Post-Surgery Rescue Cases
Rescuers sometimes care for dogs after spay-neuter or other surgical procedures.
Participants learn how to:
