A pet is not “just a dog” or “just a cat” but a sibling or a child for many families. They add structure to your day, keep you active and social, help you to overcome life’s setbacks, and give your life meaning. When they pass away, the loss can cause overwhelming pain and trigger all sorts of emotions. You grieve not only the loss of a companion but also the loss of a sibling or child, or the loss of emotional support.
While VOSD can understand this grief, we unfortunately can’t assuage your anguish. We can, however, help you accept and resolve the loss of your pet with the VOSD Last Rites. Through a poignant funeral, your family members and you can bid goodbye and create an everlasting legacy for your beloved dog or cat.
Pets deserve to be treated with respect after their passing, as they ought to be during their lifetime, too. However, despite Bengaluru being more pet-friendly compared to most other Indian cities, the municipality doesn’t offer sufficient options for cremation or burial – often leaving pet parents in the lurch upon the demise of their beloved pooch or cat.
You can choose to perform the Last Rites for a deceased dog or cat at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital, an hour away from Bengaluru.
Send an email to info@vosd.in with your full name, contact number, and address, or contact our helpline on +91 90369 86247 between 9 am and 6 pm to let us know you wish to cremate your dog or cat at VOSD. In case of emergencies, our customer care team will attend to your call outside of working hours too on all days of the week.
The donation for VOSD Last Rites is INR 29,999, which will cover the following.
Packing and preserving materials to securely transport your pet:
To and fro transportation in an air-conditioned SUV for your pet and you to the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital
Materials for the funeral rituals and cremation ceremony:
Dogs and cats will be cremated after the prayer and ritual in our wood-fired, closed crematorium. Please note that cremation will take several hours. If you wish to collect the ashes of your pet, please mention so in advance. In the meantime, at an additional cost of INR 9999, you may opt to stay at the VOSD Guest House amidst a lush green guava orchard and be comforted by hundreds of other dogs while mourning the loss of your pet. We will ensure you have a peaceful and comfortable stay with us. This amount will sponsor one meal at the VOSD Sanctuary for our 1500+ rescued and special needs dogs.
2-3 people from your side can stay at the VOSD Sanctuary overnight in our guest house with an attached kitchenette. Simple, rustic food and refreshments such as coffee/tea will be prepared upon advance request. If you need any specific food items, please bring them along. A microwave/gas stove is available in the kitchenette.
We will give you a guided tour of the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital, where you will meet hundreds of dogs brought to us from different parts of India, and learn about their stories of resilience!
The next morning, you can collect the ashes of your beloved pet in a brass urn, which we will provide upon advance request, or you may bring your own urn. Alternatively, we can preserve the ashes with the remains of our dogs, which, from time to time, are buried, and a sapling is planted on them.
A life only truly dies when it is forgotten. At VOSD, pets will always be remembered.
While we can’t lessen the pain upon the demise of your beloved pet, we can show you a glimpse of paradise – you return knowing that your pet found a final resting place where each of the 700+ trees was once the most loved dog in the world.
