VOSD Clinical Segmentation Model

This is where VOSD is different from ordinary shelters. We, as a rule, only take in dogs that are unadoptable and that no one else will take.

Paralysis & Neurological & Mobility Cohort

In this cohort, there are over 300 dogs (as in Jan 2026) that include Hind limb paralysis, Spinal trauma cases with partial paralysis & Amputees.

  • Daily bladder expression schedule
  • Bed sore prevention rotation chart
  • Mobility harness usage SOP
  • Custom wheelchairs
  • Hydrotherapy-based muscle retention
  • Neuromuscular physiotherapy cycles

Blind & Sensory Disability Cohort

VOSD is home to over 200 completely blind dogs.

VOSD Protocols in play:

  • Stable kennel mapping (no layout changes)
  • Sound cue orientation system
  • Scent enrichment programs
  • Socialisation compatibility scoring
  • Night supervision schedule

Geriatric & Hospice Care Cohort

The VOSD Hospice program is the only one in India and is dedicated to dogs too old to survive on the streets.

VOSD Protocols in play:

  • Pain scoring scale (daily)
  • Oxygen support infrastructure
  • IV infusion stations
  • Comfort bedding rotation
  • End-of-life dignity SOP
  • Emotional caregiving protocol

Chronic Organ Disease Cohorts

These are dogs that come in with known issues or are discovered to have them over their lifetimes and who receive routine checkups at VOSD.

Renal Care (~100 daily treatments)

  • Dialysis referral network
  • IV fluid regimens
  • Electrolyte monitoring
  • Renal diet formulation
  • Blood parameter tracking dashboard

GI / Liver Care (~200 daily treatments)

  • Hepatic enzyme tracking
  • Specialised low-fat GI diets
  • Dehydration protocol
  • Stool monitoring charting

Congestive Heart Failure (~100 daily treatments)

  • Echocardiogram records
  • Diuretic schedules
  • Fluid restriction SOP
  • Oxygen & emergency response kits

Orthopaedic & Mobility Care (~200+ daily treatments)

These dogs are sometimes from the VOSD Hospice programs, but many are pedigree dogs such as Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, and St Bernards.
