Special needs pup dumped outside VOSD gates will live with us forever!

On September 18th, the VOSD team went for a routine vet visit to town, as usual the doctors treated our dogs and we headed homewards. We looked forward to spending a languid evening at the sanctuary. Just as our van was about to enter the gate we saw a little pup run towards our vehicle. She was sprightly, smelled of biryani and had the “most gorgeous eyes”. We picked her up and didn’t let her go…

We figured somebody must have left the pretty pooch in front of our gate because of her congenital limb defect. They rightly suspected that the tiny pup wouldn’t be able to fend for herself or be safe on the streets with one bad leg.

We were obviously delighted to welcome ‘Khushi’, as we named her, into our lives. In fact we fell in love with her the minute we laid eyes on her. She was cute as a button and very good-natured. Khushi made friends with all the dogs and humans, ate everything that was offered to her, and chewed up a pair of slippers within the first hour. The little bundle of joy is also a big bundle of energy!

She was dewormed on the first day and received her first round of vaccines last week. She has also been put on calcium supplements. She is in good health and has the appetite of a bull dog but bites like a puppy with teething pains. Khushi is at that age when she chews up everything from leashes to people’s toes and fingers; but is surprisingly averse to dog chew toys.

Khushi has one bad leg but she doesn’t care. She runs around all day, plays with older dogs, eats from a bowl double her size and cuddles with her human before sleeping. Khushi is completely devoid of self-pity. Physical deformity is not stopping her from living her best life and looking into the future with wide-eyed excitement. She will have a great future with a loving and safe home, hundreds of dog and human friends; and like all foundlings she will lead a life of many adventures on VOSD grounds.

VOSD is home to hundreds of special needs dogs like Khushi who would otherwise be ravaged by vagaries of street life and meet painful deaths. To help us provide secure homes and medical aid to more such dogs, please consider donating INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/

Special needs dogs who can’t survive on the streets can be surrendered to VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
