What you will learn

This is the story of Gaja, a two-year-old St. Bernard who was surrendered to VOSD when his family had to move abroad. They tried long and hard to take him along but when everything failed, they surrendered him to us. We discovered that he has deformed & weak hind legs, which his previous owners probably didn’t know about. But Gaja is in good hands now – he has been started on the VOSD Joint Care Supplement lifelong for bone and joint health.

Gaja’s condition could have been caused due to inbreeding. The craze of owning exotic pedigree dogs like him fuels the illegal backyard breeders to use corrupt practices when mass-producing puppies. Who pays the price for this greed? The poor dogs. Let us know in the comments on how you think such unethical puppy mills can be shut down. Once the demand in India for Siberian Huskies and St. Bernards goes down, do you think dogs like Gaja will be spared of a cruel fate?

VOSD cares for hundreds of such pet dogs who invariably have irreversible hereditary/genetic disorders. The cost for the care is extremely high so we’d appreciate it if you could donate towards their food & medical bills. You can contribute a one-time or monthly sum of INR 5,000 ($65) by visiting https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.

You can surrender special needs, old and abandoned dogs to VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
