What you will learn

A few years ago, a pet dog got kicked out onto the streets by her owners because they didn’t care about her anymore. A shopkeeper and his wife who stayed in the locality took pity on the poor pooch and began feeding her. Abandoned but strong, she learnt to live on the streets near the shop but would suffer from skin infections which would go untreated.

Recently, a dog lover noticed that ‘Ruby’ was struggling to navigate her way on the streets. A closer look revealed that she had turned blind in one eye due to cataract. So she was admitted to the VOSD Hospice, which accepts senior and blind stray dogs without a surrender fee.

Ruby reminds us of one of our dear dogs named Big Red whom we lost recently. She has the same calm demeanour and childlike curiosity as him, and loves scratches as much as he did! When she arrived, she was dirty and her fur was matted. So we groomed her thoroughly and have continued brushing her since. She absolutely loves these pamper sessions because she knows they’ll end in treats – she is a sucker for yummy food!

Life for any stray dog isn’t easy; they aren’t looked after or loved like a pet dog is. So we at VOSD ensure that abandoned, elderly, or ailing dogs like Ruby are provided comfortable accommodation, veterinary care, proper nutrition, individual attention, customised care, and a tons of kisses and cuddles. You can help us meet their needs to lead healthy, comfortable lives by donating INR 5,000 (~$63) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
