What you will learn

On the way for a vet visit, we noticed a stray dog dragging herself on the highway. We pulled over and ran to her aid, and were informed by the locals that a vehicle had hit her resulting in her paralysis. Her feet – since she would drag herself on the tar – were bruised to the point where her bones were exposed.

We took her to the vet and got a few x-rays done. X-rays showed calcified growth on her broken femur bones, and a vertebral fracture which had healed incorrectly. This indicated that the accident must’ve happened a month ago. Doctors confirmed she wont be able to walk ever again and will remain paralysed waist-down.

Luckily for her, the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital is equipped to provide excellent care for special needs dogs. So we brought her back with us and named her Saaya! Her wounds are dressed twice a day, we help her relieve herself every few hours, and keep both her and her enclosure clean and dry at all times. She has a soft rubber bed which is waterproof & prevents bed sores/abrasions, and disposable jute mats to keep her warm.

Saaya can’t walk again, but once her injuries heal we will get a custom-made wheelchair for her so she can stay mobile for a few hours every day. Stay tuned for more updates about this gorgeous girl!
