Two rescued dogs at VOSD shelter, Munni the matriarch completes 10 years of care and protection.
What you will learn

Back in the day when VOSD operated a trauma centre for stray dogs in Bengaluru, a tiny motherless puppy was rescued by one of the staff who worked with us. She was smaller than a mouse and was struggling to live on the streets. Under our care, the little one soon grew up to be a happy and confident girl – she became one of the earliest residents of the VOSD sanctuary in 2013.

It wasn’t long before ‘Munni’ assumed the role of the Matriarch. Even today, one can see her parked in the middle of the sanctuary with her husband Munna Bhai and kids Tunia and Punya by her side. Their family has grown as they adopted more dogs into their pack – Kariya, Gabbar, Circuit, and many others. Munni not only holds them together like glue, but also disciplines the pack when they tend to be naughty or get into fights!

When visitors walk in, she barks loudly to warn her family to stay safe. But with people she has gotten to know over time, Munni is absolutely the sweetest. In fact, her favourite human is Jillar who works as a paravet in VOSD – their bond is nearly a decade old. She breaks out into a happy dance upon seeing him and loves being carried like a baby.

Her puppy-like energy is something we admire about her. Despite being 10 years old, she’s so full of life and enjoys every minute to the fullest. Given her age, we conduct routine blood tests and check-ups and so far she’s been in excellent health. Fingers crossed that sweet Munni leads a long and healthy life with us until the end.

VOSD has given hundreds of dogs who didn’t have a home or hope of surviving on the streets a second chance in life. Munni, like many others is one of those lucky pooches who was rescued from the streets and given a new hope.
