Senior stray dog with multiple heath issues comes to VOSD for lifelong care
What you will learn

Sweety, an old stray dog between 8 to 10 years of age, was forced to relocate far from home during the recent Bengaluru floods. When a rescuer found her, the poor dog seemed very distressed and wasn’t able to move at all. With some help, Sweety was rushed to a veterinary clinic where the doctor diagnosed her with multiple health issues including cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), spondylitis, arthritis, age-related hip dysplasia, and obesity.

The cumulative effect of all these afflictions was unbearable pain and extreme discomfort, which rendered Sweety immobile and intolerant to touch. The rescuer put her up at a curative pet clinic temporarily but it was apparent that a permanent home would have to be secured for her. No one knew where she came from and it would be impossible for the old, ailing, and displaced dog to survive on an entirely different street. Hence, Sweety came to VOSD for lifelong care!

At first, Sweety would lash out at anyone who would try to get close to her. Our handlers maneuvered this situation with caution to be able to treat her. She also had many wounds on her legs and thighs, which our medical team cleans and dresses every day. Sweety has been started on VOSD Joint Care Supplement (shop.vosd.in) along with other relevant medicines for her various conditions.

It’s been over two weeks and her health seems to be stabilising. Her wounds have healed well and she’s been put on a weight-loss diet, as advised by the doctors. However, Sweety still doesn’t like to be around other dogs or people and does not take kindly to being disturbed. Like most old pooches, she keeps to herself and has found a safe, cool spot at the sanctuary where she spends her days recuperating.

VOSD is home to hundreds of senior stray dogs like Sweety who suffer from multiple health issues or have been displaced from their environment. Many more such helpless pooches are still suffering on the streets, so please help bring them to the safety of the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital by donating INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
