What you will learn

In an absolute shocking case of animal cruelty in Bengaluru, an unidentified person THREW ACID ON A HEALTHY STRAY DOG. The reason behind this extreme act remains unknown. Since he was in excruciating pain and shock, the poor dog was running frantically screaming and growling at passersby. A man who was walking on the road misunderstood that the dog was trying to attack him, so he HIT THE DOG ON HIS HEAD. This caused a skull compression and thus vision loss, LEAVING HIM COMPLETELY BLIND.

Information about this dog who was named ‘Thor’ was circulated among the animal welfare community in the city. When one of the rescuers went to secure him that night, she found him in unimaginable distress and pain. Thankfully, a kind man had managed to lure the dog and keep him safe in a temporary shelter. Thor was finally picked up by an NGO for further care.

After months of treatment when his wounds had nearly healed, the next task was finding him a permanent home. It was impossible to release him back on the streets as he was blind, and because behavioural issues had surfaced due to these harrowing experiences. His rescuers requested us to accept him into the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital as he needed love, care and assurance to regain trust in humans.

We’re giving Thor all the time and space he needs to settle into his new home after which we’ll begin socialising with him. He’s still extremely unsure of strangers so we’re respecting his boundaries. We’re optimistic that he will turn a new leaf and learn to love and trust again… as have hundreds of cruelty survivor dogs who have been at VOSD for years now.

VOSD admits cruelty survivor dogs without a surrender fees. If you wish to sponsor Thor’s food & medical expenses, please donate INR 5,000 (~$65) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.

If you know of any dog who has suffered animal cruelty or abuse and is no longer safe on the streets, the dog can be surrender to VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
