A community dog feeder from Pune rescued a two-month-old puppy who had been hit by a car. She was badly injured and her hind leg was completely deformed. He was surprised to see that such a tiny pup had survived the horrendous accident and was fighting for her life!
After assessing her condition, he knew it wasn’t safe for her to be left on the streets so he took her home. A veterinary doctor recommended some medication for her speedy recovery, but informed him that the poor pup would be left with a permanent limp due to the injured leg. She was healthy enough to be given for adoption, so the rescuer circulated posts across social media and among his friends’ circles. However, there were no takers for a “damaged stray dog.”
Lizzie, due to her failed adoption and condition was surrendered to VOSD under the special needs dog category. Since she had nowhere else to go and couldn’t be left back on the streets she found here forever home at VOSD Sanctuary. She’s a firecracker of energy and instantly took to living at our sanctuary. As per standard protocol, we thoroughly checked her for ticks & fleas, groomed her and trimmed her nails… she sat through it all like the good girl! The 3-month-old will now live at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital for the rest of her life, and will be provided all the care & comfort she needs.
Special needs stray dogs find it difficult to survive independently on the streets because finding food, water, shelter and safety becomes a challenge. Once surrendered to VOSD, all their needs are met to ensure the best quality of life possible. To help us protect vulnerable dogs like Lizzie & hundreds of other special needs dogs residing at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital, please donate INR 5,000 (~$64) one-time or regularly for their food and medical expenses: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.
If you have any special needs dogs who cannot survive on the road any more, you can surrender them to the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
