Bangalore is a city full of pet lovers itching to take a road trip. Luckily for us Bangaloreans, there is no dearth of gorgeous hills, forests, and places to relax in Karnataka itself. Karnataka is one of the richest, more biodiverse regions in the world, and the wildlife here can blow you away. If you’re not looking for the next safari, there are quieter places to enjoy a good time with the folks and play with your happy dog.
Note: As dog lovers, we are also devout environmentalists – the two naturally extend into each other. So the places we’ve highlighted below are for those who respect nature, respect their surroundings, and are looking for clean luxury and comfort.

To get an unmatched view of the Western Ghats, you don’t need to leave your dog at home. Take your pet to Hunkal Woods, a sprawling estate in Chikmagalur. Your dog will have free reign over everything in the estate, and you don’t have to worry about keeping it on a leash for too long.

This is a gorgeous waterfront property located 40 km outside Bangalore. It’s a bird watcher’s paradise, so if you have an interest in that, this place is perfect. The hosts at The Lake House are avid wildlife conservationists. If you like slow, green, and clean travel, check out this wonderful place for a leisurely weekend of stargazing, sumptuous meals, walks around the area, a view of the lake, and of course, the best time with your pet.
For fun, you can try cycling, angling, and guided hikes. These are all included in the stay. You can also get to take wildlife photography workshops and become the budding naturalist you always wanted to be but never had the time.
If you want to experience outdoor camping, then you can stay in tents instead of the rooms. The best part is you can pitch your tent anywhere you like on the property for the best possible views!

Another fantastic space just a little outside Bangalore, near Hosur. It’s a beautifully built house in the style of a treehouse. You can go with family, your dogs, and just about anyone (though we advise keeping the numbers to less than 8 people at a time). There is a stone swimming pool with a deep end to practice the perfect dive. You will also find a cute wood fire oven that you can use for bonfires and pizza parties. Your dog will love running around this property and enjoying the sunshine.
A luxury stay in Mudigere (Chikmagalur), Flameback has topline facilities, comfortable villas, and delicious meals. You will have to look after your dog, but there is enough space for your entire family to take in the gorgeous views and lush greenery without muddying up the place.
Another place for outdoorsy fun, Backyard Camp is situated in Nayakanahalli in Karnataka. It’s an easy drive. The best bit is that Backyard Camp welcomes dogs of all shapes and sizes. Take your entire family or your pet and enjoy lazy days in the sun, reading, walking through farmland, and switching off.
